The city law director has announced his intentions to become interim county prosecutor and expressed interest in the permanent position as well.
Pat Lang announced Thursday night his desire to be interim Athens County prosecutor, a position that will be vacant at the end of next month because of C. David Warren’s retirement.
Warren announced last week that he will resign May 31, citing personal reasons and a desire to do something different. Warren said Jan. 27 that he would not be running in the upcoming election.
The Athens County Commissioner Central Committee will choose an interim prosecutor to serve in Warren’s place until the election.
“As my wife told me, ‘If your dream job comes up, you have to go for it,’” Lang said.
Lang, a graduate of Ohio University, has served as the city law director since 2007.
He said that if he receives the position in an interim role, he would certainly run for the full-term position.
Warren previously stated that Assistant County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn was interested in the position.
Lang said he is not too worried about running against fellow Democrat Blackburn.
“We will both make our cases,” Lang said.
Blackburn could not be reached for comment.
