Man pleads not guilty to assault

An Athens man was arraigned Friday for allegedly hitting another man with his car.

Alfred O. Cossin, 46, pleaded not guilty Friday to one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and two counts of operation of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas.

Cossin allegedly struck Craig Moultry with his car in front of a house in Albany May 5 after the two had an argument inside the house. Moultry was seriously injured and was airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, according to court documents.

Cossin’s bond was set at $20,000 and was posted May 7.

If Cossin is convicted of all charges, he could spend up to nine years in prison and pay up to $17,000 in fines, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Cossin is due back in court June 15 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Cossin also has a pending case of assault and disorderly conduct in the Athens County Municipal Court. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
