Post Letter: RSVP candidate endorses write-in president

I am a candidate on the RSVP ticket, and I am voting for Christopher Wagner.

I have known Chris since I came to Ohio University in the fall of 2009, and I have never found a reason to believe that he would make a bad president. In fact, all the evidence points to the contrary. Chris would make an excellent president of Student Senate.

In the current campaign, the conversation has seemed to center on one debate: experience vs. passion. RSVP claims to have the experience, and FACE claims to have the passion for representing students. The way I see it, Chris Wagner has both.

Chris has been a senator for two years. He knows the ins and outs of senate better than anyone I know. He understands both the limits and the potential of senate. He understands that a resolution can have causal efficacy, but that simply passing a resolution is not enough. In conversations with Chris, he has stressed to me the importance of follow-through on the part of senate members.

Chris also has strong convictions that I know he will not discard as soon as he gets elected. He believes that student trustees should have voting rights, that budget meetings should be open to the public, and that OU should go conflict-free, but he also knows better than to simply guarantee these things. These are important goals, but one student, even the president of Student Senate, cannot ensure they are met. But I do know that Chris will whole-heartedly pursue those goals, and that is all we can really ask.

I encourage everyone to write in Christopher Wagner as Student Senate president.

Jared Henderson is a sophomore studying philosophy.
