RSVP wins all but 3 seats in Student Senate elections

Following a contentious campaign, RSVP won all but three spots in Student Senate for next year.

Kyle Triplett, Roger Jones and Chris Wimsatt won the presidential, vice presidential and treasurer seats, respectively.

"I'm ecstatic about it," said Triplett, whose term as student trustee ends this school year.

Triplett received 1,961 votes, as compared to FACE presidential candidate Matthew Wallace's 991 votes.

Last-minute write-in presidential candidate Christopher Wagner received 978 votes after a two-day campaign. Wagner is currently the Honors Tutorial College senator.

FACE won an At-Large position and the University College senator position for next year.

Aaron Brown, a write-in candidate, won the Fine Arts senator position with 13 votes.

A total of 4,057 students voted in the elections this year — a record for recent years, said Chauncey Jackson, chairman of the Student Senate Board of Elections.

In 2010's election, 3,911 students voted, and 2,104 students voted in 2009.
