Weekend fest arrests continue

Local law enforcement and Liquor Control agents arrested a total of 58 people at the two street fests this past weekend.

Friday’s Oak Fest led to 16 total arrests, and 42 arrests were made at Saturday’s Mill Fest.

Athens Police and Ohio University Police officers arrested five people at Oak Fest, all of whom face alcohol-related charges. Liquor Control made an additional 11 arrests, seven of which were OU students.

Most of Liquor Control’s arrests were for underage possession of beer or fictitious identification.

Local police officers made 17 of the 42 arrests at Mill Fest. All of the local arrests were for public intoxication, and eight were additionally charged with underage consumption.

OU students comprised six of the local arrests at Mill Fest; four of those arrested attend different schools and seven were not students.

Liquor Control arrested 25 people at Mill Fest, 11 of whom were OU students.

At last year’s Mill Fest, Athens Police, University Police officers and Liquor Control agents made a total of 37 arrests.

Local police officers arrested 11 people at last year’s Oak Fest. Liquor Control arrest numbers from last year’s Oak Fest were not available.
