Woman kidnapped at Chauncey gas station

A woman reported Monday night to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office that she was kidnapped from the parking lot of the Marathon gas station in Chauncey.

Tiffany Rutter, 20, of Buchtel, Ohio, reported her ex-boyfriend Joseph King, 20, of Pomeroy, abducted her yesterday at about 8 p.m., according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Rutter’s sister called 911 after she claimed Rutter called her asking her to call the police, according to release.

She was located on Hebbardsville Road at about 8:30 p.m. She told deputies she was physically assaulted and left in the road, according to the release.

Athens County Emergency Medical Services transported Rutter to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to the release.

At 1 a.m. this morning, King was arrested and charged with kidnapping, according to the release.

He appeared in Athens County Municipal Court on one count of kidnapping.

King is currently being held on $100,000 bond at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Kidnapping is a first-degree charge. King could spend a maximum of 10 years in prison and pay a maximum fine of $20,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
