Columbia Gas to replace natural gas pipeline system

Starting at the end of this month, Columbia Gas of Ohio will begin their Athens Gas Pipeline Replacement Project, which will replace the natural gas pipeline system throughout Athens.

The $1.2 million project, which involves 17,231 feet of pipeline, is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year, according to a Columbia Gas news release.

While 351 customers will be affected, no road closings are anticipated, according to the release.

Columbia Gas will be replacing main lines, service lines and relocating indoor gas meters outside to eliminate the need for workmen to enter customers’ homes.

Representatives will contact customers prior to any work affecting them, states the release.

Though there will be some digging, representatives said that workers will try to do as little digging as possible and will restore any damage caused by the replacements after their work is complete or whenever weather permits.
