Elected FACE candidates disqualified

Student Senate’s Board of Elections has disqualified the entire FACE ticket after investigating the party’s campaign finance report, removing its only two winning candidates from their new offices.

The report incorrectly reported its T-shirt sale losses as profits, said Board of Elections Chairman Chauncey Jackson.

“FACE actually took a loss on the shirts,” he said. “It was reported as a positive number, which was wrong.”

Misreporting campaign finances is a Class A violation of senate elections rules. Class A violations are punishable by the disqualification of the entire ticket.

The decision leaves two vacant seats, with At-Large Senator-elect Rachel Ackerman and University College Senator-elect Michael Stover both disqualified.

FACE also sold its fundraiser T-shirts for too low a price, Jackson said. Senate rules forbid parties from giving students gifts worth more than $2, but FACE took a $3.04 loss on each shirt, another Class A violation.
