Ohio University President Roderick McDavis has been appointed to serve on the Mid-American Conference Executive Committee, according to a news release.
McDavis will replace outgoing Bowling Green State University President Carol Cartwright on the four-person committee.
"The executive committee will often do the first round of investigation or discussion or exploring of new initiatives and new opportunities and will take recommendations to the presidents' council," said Becky Watts, McDavis' chief of staff.
The committee's other members include John Dunn, president of Western Michigan University; Jo Ann Gora, president of Ball State University; and John Peters, president of Northern Illinois University.
"(This appointment) places Ohio University in a leadership role... with a more elevated voice at the table for sharing ideas and hearing ideas," Watts said.
The committee meets by phone. McDavis' term on the group, which is effective immediately, will last for one year.
"(McDavis) looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the executive committee because he believes it will increase his opportunity to identify opportunities for all MAC institutions to institute best practices so athletics can best support academics," Watts said.
