Ohio Environmental Protection Agency promotes outdoor learning with $300,000 statewide grant

As a part of a $300,000 statewide grant to promote the completion of environmental learning projects in the classroom, teachers in Athens, Hocking and Perry Counties will receive more than $45,000 from the Ohio Environmental protection agency.

Rural Action, an organization aimed at revitalizing Appalachian Ohio who originally received the grant, will partner with five teachers in three local school districts to educate students about natural and cultural history, as well as outdoor learning, according to a news release.

The grant-funded projects will cover topics ranging from the migration of Monarch butterflies, stream assessments with the Sunday Creek Watershed Group and air quality during a visit to Ohio University’s Center for Air Quality.

In addition, professional development workshops will be offered to 25 teachers, aiming to help incorporate hands-on outdoor activities and environmental topics into their lesson plans, according to the release.
