7-foot marijuana plant found behind trailer

With the help of an anonymous tip, Athens Sheriff’s deputies located a 7-foot marijuana plant behind a trailer on state Route 550.

Deputies Ryan Gilette and John Morris and the K-9 squad located the plant behind a trailer near the Silver Saddle Bar on Ohio State Route 550 earlier today said Sheriff Pat Kelly.

Kelly estimated the tree held about 2,200 grams of marijuana, adding that the plant has yet to be processed and examined.

Gilette and Morris found the illegal plant growing behind a trailer after asking to use a neighbor’s property.

The plant was most likely not for distribution purposes, Kelly said, adding that, if it were for personal use, the plant would “supply (the owner) for about the next year, I'd imagine.”

All charges are being forwarded to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office.

If someone were charged, the person would possibly face a misdemeanor charge.
