Class to ready area residents for college

Area residents on the fence about college will have a chance to sharpen their skills and ready themselves for academia next month thanks to a new 13-week course.

The Work Station, 70 N. Plains Road,The Plains, is now offering a new class that will begin Oct. 4 and run through the end of December.

The class, open to all area residents, aims to help improve reading, writing and mathematics skills as well as strengthen study habits and organizational skills, according to an Athens County Jobs and Family Services news release.

Financial aid for college will also be a topic of discussion for the course, which will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

All participants should be able to read and do math at an eighth grade level or above. If participants are not at this level, The Work Station offers additional programs that can help them. For more information, call Candy Byron or Scott Hatfield at The Work Station at 797-1405 or 1-877-351-0405.
