Columbus natives Fox N Hounds will put a new twist on the bluegrass sound familiar to Appalachia Thursday at Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery, 24 W. Union St.
The show starts at 10 p.m. Thursday on the public house side.
“It’s not traditional bluegrass,” said Steven Fox, the band’s lead vocalist and mandolin player. “It’s much more instrumental, and we use less harmonies. We also often write in minor keys.”
The band emerged on the scene four years ago, when its members randomly joined at a pick-up gig and realized they worked better than a hodgepodge of mismatched musicians.
Since then, Fox N Hounds has undergone numerous lineup changes. In the fall of 2009, the band released its self-titled EP.
The band will join fellow Columbus resident Joey Hebdo, as Hebdo continues to bring talent from throughout the state to join him on the Jackie O’s stage.
However, the group is no stranger to Athens and Jackie O’s especially; it has played the venue back when it was O’Hooley’s Irish Pub.
“It’s a great place for our kind of music,” Fox said.
