With the aroma of fresh brewed coffee wafting out of the open door, a line of people waiting to buy coffee spilled onto the sidewalk out front of Court Street Coffee this morning.
The wait was a result of the coffee shop celebrating its 2-year anniversary by offering $1 drinks all day today to their patrons.
“We have a really good mix of students and faculty coming in,” said owner Debbie Fulks-Larimer.
Court Street Coffee, 67 S. Court Street, opened its doors during Homecoming Weekend of 2009 and since has become a popular stop on in Athens for both Ohio University students and faculty.
Freshmen Carolyn May, a first-time patron of Court Street Coffee, visited today after seeing flyers advertising the dollar drink special. May said she will “definitely” come back after today’s promotion.
Along with serving Crimson Cup brand coffee and espresso drinks, the cafe also offers a variety of teas and food, using local products and buying from local vendors to do so, said Fulks-Larimer.
The sandwiches at Court Street Coffee are picked up daily from the Farmacy on Stimson Ave., and the scones are homemade by an Ohio University employee, she added.
“(Buying local) keeps prices affordable for our customers,” said Fulks-Larimer.
The owner was optimistic about the second-year anniversary celebration and said sales have been steady over the past two years.
“We are really happy with the progress we’ve made,” said Fulks-Larimer. “We have grown since we first began.”
