Dryer-fire forces Ping evacuation; center reopened shortly after

Ping Center was evacuated today at 2:45 p.m. after a dryer accidently caught on fire.

One of the first-floor commercial dryers caught fire because of an unknown cause, Athens Fire Chief Bob Troxel said.

Athens Fire Department had to smoke out the first floor upon arrival.

Troxel added that the fire was contained inside the dyer and that there was no other damage to the building.

The Ping Center was reopened to students and residents after firefighters extinguished the fire.
