Hip-Hop Congress holds first meeting of the year

Last night, about 30 hip-hop lovers assembled to drop a beat on the new school year.

Ohio University’s Hip-Hop Congress welcomed a full house of veterans and fresh faces during their first meeting. New president, Russell Morrow, hopes to bring hip-hop to OU and the Athens community more than ever by exposing the art and culture that follows.

“We are dedicated to educating people about hip-hop and how it relates to our lives,” he said.

This year’s third annual Hip Hopaloozawill feature rapper Jean P, from Canton, and seven other artists at The Union Sept. 29. Like most funds the group raises, all proceeds from the $3-$4 admission will go toward Athens charities.

Brick City Dance Crew, a 30-member break-dance group that emerged at OU just last year, will be joining Hip Hop Congress in many of their regular events this year.

So if you’re into freestyling, next Wednesday could be your 30 seconds of fame
