Hocking College president returns from exile

Despite his ousting last June by the Hocking College Board of Trustees, Ron Erickson has returned to his post as president of the school.

The president originally was exiled as the result of an ongoing dispute with the board over control and communication within the college.

After Erickson’s dismissal, three members of the board resigned their posts, none of whom was available for comment.

In his letter of resignation, Chairman Van Cardaras cited not wanting a troublemaker reputation as his reason for leaving.

The board, which replaced the three in the months following Erickson’s dismissal, voted 5-4 in favor of reinstatement Tuesday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Spending money to search for a new president would be a mistake, said Mike

Brooks, board chairman.

Brooks went on to say shuffling between five presidents in three years has wasted a substantial amount of money and that the school needs consistency.

Erickson, who resumed his post yesterday, said he is “delightfully surprised” by the decision.
