New e-tour lets potential students visit OU from home

Ohio University unveiled its latest web enterprise yesterday with the OU e-tour.

The e-tour was brought to fruition through a partnership between the Undergraduate Admissions, University Communications and Marketing, and the outside company YourCampus360, which created the virtual tour.

The e-tour showcases the best of OU for prospective students, said Candace Boeninger, assistant vice provost and director of Undergraduate Admissions.

“We know for sure that Ohio University has a beautiful campus, and we know students who see the campus are more likely to apply and enroll at OU,” Boeninger said.  “But we also know that sometimes the distance to OU can present a problem to students who want to visit. We wanted to make sure our web presence had all of the same benefits and features of our physical location.”

The new e-tour follows a traditional walking-tour route, which was derived in coordination with Undergraduate Admissions.

“The e-tour gives people an opportunity to explore the areas of campus a one-hour walking tour may not have covered,” Boeninger said.  “You follow a traditional walking path, but you can also jump to areas you don’t normally see, like the airport or The Ridges.”

The e-tour also links to videos on the OU YouTube channel, features panoramic images of certain campus locations and offers a service specifically for international students.

“One of the things that we’re really excited about is the international aspect,” Boeninger said.  “The visual text on the walking tour and the accompanying audio can be translated into Arabic, Chinese and Spanish.”
