Parents weekend events to exhibit slice of OU life

For students around Ohio University’s campus, Parents Weekend means one important thing: time to clean.

Today kicks off the start of this year’s Parents Weekend, a collaborative effort between several campus departments that is pulled together by the Dean of Students office.

The weekend allows parents a chance to experience students’ lives on campus, Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi said.

All across campus, students are preparing.

"My room was completely a mess,” said Kate Kendall, a freshman studying journalism. “Now it's spotless."

Several events are planned for the weekend.

Students and their parents will be able to attend football, hockey and field hockey games. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and the Family 5K will invite families to participate. A dinner theater event will offer a show and dinner while families work to solve a Chicago crime boss’s murder. A comedy show and film screening will round out the weekend events.

I'm excited to see my mom and show her the campus,” said Katyln Maglosky, a junior transfer student studying special education. “We plan on doing a couple of activities: the comedy tour, breakfast and the football game."

Now that the quarter is half done, Lombardi said he hopes Parents Weekend will give students a chance to reconnect with their parents.

He said he wants students will take advantage of his open-office policy and will bring their parents by to introduce them.

We want to showcase some of the things we have going on around campus,” he said. “We hope they have a good time and get a chance to connect and have fun together.”
