Student Senate: New scheduling system to follow renovated Baker lounge opening

At last night’s meeting, Ohio University’s student senators received an update on the plan they conjured up last year that is about to be actualized into a lounge on Baker University Center’s first floor.

Because of delays in ordering and obtaining materials for the lounge, the completion of the lounge, which was anticipated for the beginning of this quarter, was delayed, Chemburkar said.

Most of the renovations have been completed, he said. The walls have been painted and the electricity is ready, and a fully ADA-accessible stage has been built. He is waiting on the arrival of the lounge’s new sound system.

“We want this place to be successful for the next 50 to 100 years,” Chemburkar said. “The smells, the sights, the sounds will reach people on all five floors and will draw people to your event.

Chemburkar also told senators about a new system for reserving Baker rooms for events.

The old paper-based model for reserving rooms will be replaced by a streamlined, online process, which will be available to students March 7.

The new system will also give students priority over non-OU people or organizations when reserving rooms for events.

This system will force student organizations to plan events in advance,” Chemburkar said.
