Student Senators to hear charity, Teach for America, Q-2-S updates

Ohio University’s Student Senate will forego introducing new legislation at tonight’s meeting but rather will listen to presentations addressing quarters to semesters, charity fundraisers and Teach for America.

Senate will meet at 7:15 tonight in Walter Hall 235.

Sujit Chemburkar, executive director of Baker University Center and University Events, will update the Senate on the changes the university will undergo when the semester changes are brought about.

Senate will continue its involvement with Baker with the renaming of the new Baker Lounge, which is undergoing renovations.

Senate members will give information on an upcoming charity event, “Play it Forward.”

“Play it Forward” will most likely be athletics based, Senate President Kyle Tripplet said. He expects the event to invite students to play sports to help raise money for charity.

“The main reason for tomorrow’s presentation is to get more info,” Tripplet said. “I’m not even sure which charity we’re going to be raising money for.”

Finally, senate member Jess Jones will present information about Teach for America, an organization that places graduating students as teachers in disadvantaged areas, Triplett said.

“We want to get students who are enthusiastic about teaching and want to help youth,” he said.

The Senate will not have any resolutions at this week’s meeting. But next week there will be expected resolutions to accommodate some more “housekeeping procedures.”
