Suspect not yet found in Richland bank robbery

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Athens Police Dept. are investigating a bank robbery that occurred earlier this afternoon on Richland Ave.

A male suspect fled south into a neighboring building after allegedly attempting to rob Wes Banco Banking Co., 505 Richland Ave at 12:44 p.m.

The suspect, a white male in his 20s, escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, according to APD Capt. Ralph Harvey.

The man was wearing a black ball cap, dark flannel and was clean shaven, Harvey said.

After evacuating a multipurpose building next door, officials did not locate the suspect.

A weapons threat was written by the suspect, according to Harvey, however he did not confirm a weapon was seen at the scene of the crime.

The State Highway Patrol has confirmed it is assisting with the investigation .
