A 25-year-old woman charged with killing her 4-year-old stepdaughter was transferred to Athens Behavioral Health Center for court-ordered treatment.
Ashley J. Young, of The Plains, was charged with two counts of aggravated murder and child endangerment and one count of murder, tampering with evidence and attempted aggravated possession of drugs. Young allegedly killed her stepdaughter, Kaylen Young, in May.
Athens County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Ward ordered Young to be taken to the Athens Behavioral Health Center for observation and evaluation to see if she is fit to stand trial, according to court documents.
Based on the report from a court-appointed doctor, Young has an “immediate need for inpatient hospitalization.” She will return to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, if or when the hospital staff determines her condition has stabilized, according to court documents.
Young was taken from the jail at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to the jail’s booking records. Young has been held at the jail on a $1 million bond since her May 24th arrest.
Aggravated murder is a special felony, meaning Young could be sentenced to life in prison, life without parole or death, if she is convicted of this charge at a trial, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
