Athens man indicted for allegedly robbing Speedway

An Athens man who allegedly tried to rob a gas station at knifepoint last month was indicted on two felony counts yesterday.

Brian K. Hoffman, 25, was indicted on one count of aggravated robbery and one count of theft of drugs.

The charges stem from a Sept. 30 incident when Hoffman allegedly wielded a knife at the cashier at Speedway, 414 Richland Ave. He demanded the money in the register and cartons of cigarettes, according to court documents.

Hoffman was found to be in possession of three vials of medication that were stolen from O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Hoffman was seen there the day before, said Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

Hoffman is currently being held on $50,000 bond at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Aggravated robbery is a first-degree felony and theft of drugs is a fourth-degree felony. Hoffman could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years and six months in prison and a maximum fine of $25,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

He will be arraigned in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas Oct. 19.
