Author cancels Kennedy Lecture Series talk

Sara Gruen, author of the popular novel Water for Elephants, has postponed her lecture originally set for Thursday at Ohio University because of a back injury.

Kathryn Barcos, the author’s agent, said Gruen threw her back out several days ago. Though they were initially optimistic she would be able to make the trip to Athens, Gruen’s doctor then decided she should not travel.

Gruen was scheduled to speak Thursday as part of the Kennedy Lecture Series. Gruen was to cover topics such as research, her love for animals, the writing process, and adapting a novel for the big screen.

Gruen’s bestselling novel Water for Elephants was recently adapted for the silver screen. The novel tells the tale of “two star-crossed lovers who find each other in the seedy world of a Depression-era circus,” according to the Kennedy Lecture Series Web page.

Barcos said the event will be rescheduled, but no date has yet been decided.
