Beginning today, Ohioans are no longer allowed to possess, sell or manufacture chemicals found in “bath salts” and synthetic cannabinoids, which can produce similar effects to that of marijuana.
The restrictions stem from legislation approved by Gov. John Kasich in July.
“Possession of these products is now against the law,” states a release from Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly. “Law enforcement officers … will stage routine checks on stores that have been known to sell the products to ensure compliance.”
The “bath salts,” also known as “spice” or “K2,” can produce highs similar to stimulants and hallucinogens when ingested and synthetic cannabinoids can produce effects is comparable to marijuana, according to the release.
