The “T” in LGBT will be recognized tonight in Bentley Hall as the keynote speaker of TransWorld Awareness Week touches on what the audience probably doesn’t know about gender.
JAC Stringer otherwise known as Midwest GenderQueer is a performance artist and radical activist. His speech, entitled “Nearly All About Gender” will focus on educating people on transgender and gender issues.
“I think students and others will respond well to JAC’s message and style of teaching,” director of Ohio University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center Mickey Hart said. “I think this visit will leave a lasting impression.”
The event is part of a week sponsored by the LGBT Center and Open Doors. Transgender issues are sometimes overlooked and therefore the week aims to raise awareness of the transgender community.
“Having an awareness week like this is a wonderful opportunity to bring greater awareness to issues that trans and genderqueer members of our community face,” co-chair of Open Doors Michael Pistrui said.
The event will take place at 140 Bentley Hall at 8 p.m.
