Ohio University President Roderick McDavis will speak at today’s Faculty Senate meeting for the second time this year.
McDavis is expected to update senate on the state’s “Enterprise University” plans, which would make OU a charter school if the university adopted the plan. He also will discuss the university’s international education, said Becky Watts, McDavis’ chief of staff.
Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit also will speak before the senate tonight.
“People want a discussion on the buyout,” Faculty Senate Chair Joe McLaughlin said.
Benoit will explain how last year’s buyouts of select faculty will allow the university to save money.
Some members of Faculty Senate are concerned about whether the employees who were bought out will be replaced, McLaughlin said.
Senate will vote on a second reading of a plan developed last year that allows departments to offer specialized junior-level English composition courses.
“I think part of what’s driving this is the English department currently teaches 75 percent of JE courses,” McLaughlin said. “With the switch to semesters, they may not be able to do that.”
If the resolution were passed, the University Curriculum Council would have oversight of departments’ junior-level English composition courses.
Faculty Senate will meet at 7:10 tonight in 235 Walter Hall.
