A 21-year-old Gallipolis man was arrested today in connection with the September rape of an Ohio University student.
Levi Canterbury was deployed with a National Guard unit in El Paso, Texas, when he was apprehended shortly after OUPD issued a warrant for his arrest. Canterbury is not an OU student, according to an OUPD alert.
Canterbury is accused of picking the student up near Route 682, driving her to a lit parking lot, raping her and then dropping her off near College Gate between 2:50 and 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, according to the original crime alert.
Canterbury's arrest was part of a coordinated effort between Ohio University Police, the U.S. Marshall's Agency and several other law enforcement agencies.
Canterbury, whose bond is set at $200,000, is awaiting extradition to Ohio.
