Ohio Gov. John Kasich

Kasich: SB 5 keeps Ohio business-friendly

On last night’s Sean Hannity Show, Ohio Gov. John Kasich made an appearance and discussed his take on the potentially positive outcomes of Senate Bill 5.

The majority of Kasich’s argument was based on keeping business in Ohio.

“Top to bottom, Ohio has to be business friendly,” Kasich said in regard to supporting economic growth. “… It is so hard for small business to be successful, and when you raise the cost of doing business they are going to go somewhere else.”

The controversial bill, which was pushed to a citizen’s vote on the upcoming November ballot as Issue 2, would limit the rights of union workers to collectively bargain as well as their health benefits.

Kasich, who said the bill would not affect his budget, added that it would be difficult for local governments to create jobs when they are forced to keep raising taxes. He then cited a statistic that, during the past 10 years, Ohio has lost more jobs than every state except for Michigan and California.

“(SB 5) is designed to give local governments tools to control their own costs,” he said.

“Are we creating an environment where people have hope and can get jobs?”
