An Ohio University professor will see her name in the pages of Ohio Magazine this year because of her work on the Zanesville campus.
Karen Slovak, an associate professor of social work at OU-Zanesville, will be recognized in the magazine’s 2011 Excellence in Education edition.
Slovak has advocated for a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work degree on the campus. She serves as a co-adviser for the Good Intentions Group, which promotes service and activism in the areas of social work, psychology and human services, according to OU-Zanesville’s website.
Slovak has also written 25 scholarly publications and helped create two learning communities on the OU-Zanesville campus.
"Dr. Slovak is an outstanding professor as evidenced by her many teaching, research and service contributions to our campus, the university and our community,” said OU-Zanesville Interim Dean Richard Greenlee in a university news release. “She is the epitome of a teacher-scholar who cares deeply about her students in the classroom, yet maintains an active research agenda contributing to the knowledge base of the profession of social work. Faculty members such as her are the heart and soul of a university and the very reason why students are attracted to pursue their degree on a regional campus in the first place."
