Post Letter: Athens needs a mayor with more intelligence

Adding to Christopher Wimsatt’s vote in the Sept. 27 letter for Randy Morris to replace out-dated Mayor Paul Wiehl as Athens’ mayor:

Wiehl refuses to enforce the garbage law that restricts garbage can volume to 30 gallons.

You might think that’s a silly issue, but a 42-gallon can dumps 40 percent more trash into our fragile two-county landfill. We who use the legal can size unfairly subsidize those who use larger cans. In not enforcing this simple law, Wiehl also violates his sworn duty to enforce all laws. He’s lazy.

So what other laws does this guy not enforce?

Wiehl thinks it’s OK for him to continue to allow ground water from city property to flow down into my property and two adjacent properties, thereby destroying them.

Wiehl is crude — he insults people he doesn’t like.

In 2005, while I was painting a fine art mural on an old city retaining wall on North Shafer Street, he walked behind me and said in his snarly voice, “City Council thinks you’re a putz.” I shot back at this rude man, “That’s because y’all are esthetically illiterate!”

Later, I looked up the word putz.  It’s a Yiddish word that means “fool” or “saphead.” At that time, he was D-1st Ward. I doubt that the other six Council members would speak that way about a person.

Athens needs a mayor who treats people and their property right and according to law.  Athens does not need an arrogant, rude putz for mayor.

We need intelligence in City Hall. On Nov. 8, vote Wiehl out and Randy Morris as Athens mayor.  PLEASE!
