I spoke at last week’s Student Senate meeting in regard to Student Senate taking a stance on Issue 2.
As I stated during the meeting, I am president of the Ohio University College Republicans and stated that we, as a political organization, have not taken a stance on this controversial issue.
I feel that it would be inappropriate for Student Senate to take a stance on it as well. By taking a stance, it would be speaking for all students and not be properly represented by senate’s decision.
If students feel that their voice is not being heard, then they will be given the opportunity to vote in the election on Nov. 8. To those who say this is more than a political issue, regardless of the precedent of senate on political issues, I feel that senate would be overstepping their boundaries.
