PostLetter: Issue 2 always will be directly related to students

I am writing on behalf of the recent Student Senate stance, or lack thereof, and the reasons why I believe Issue 2 is a student issue.

Considering first and foremost direct campus impact, we have had multiple reported rapes already this quarter and, being a woman, I feel it is an issue to protect our police officers.

I want to be able to know there are enough police officers to patrol and watch the area and help whenever possible when an emergency happens.

I want to feel safe walking around this large campus at night because I know there is the right amount of police officers and their jobs or rights are not taken from them.

I also know that the education college has about 1,500 undergraduate students and about 500 graduate students. All these students will one day be affected by the passage of Issue 2.

How is this not a student issue when we are working toward careers in college and this is a bill that will directly relate to our careers?

I strongly urge Student Senate to take a stance on collective bargaining and Issue 2. This is, always has been, and always will be a student issue, and we need you to stick up for us now more than ever.

Vanessa Herritt is a freshman studying education.
