Chalk drawings of rainbows and neon-colored signs stood out against a picturesque fall scene that was the Howard Hall site today when Open Doors presented the Queer Aquarium.
“We’ve had some interesting reactions from people,” Michael Pistrui, male co-chair of Open Doors said. “People walk through, read a couple signs and cock their head, and a lot of people go “huh” and move along. That’s what we want — to give them some food for thought.”
The event ran from 11 to 3 p.m and consisted of a cycle of members from Open Doors sitting at the site, eating lunch, studying and talking to show that daily activities of heterosexual and homosexual people are really no different.
The site was decorated with colorful chalk drawings and signs displaying bite-sized pieces of information for passers-by.
“If they had handed me a flyer I would have thrown it in my backpack and forgotten about it,” Sarah Jeffers, a junior studying special education said. “(The signs) are interesting and catch your eye.”
The Queer Aquarium was one of the events pertaining to National Coming Out Day.
