Ohio University’s speech and debate team talked its way to success for the past two weeks.
Two weekends ago, the Speaking Bobcats placed 4th overall at the 74 Swing Speech Tournament at Illinois State University. Last weekend, the Speaking Bobcats placed 4th overall at the 2012 Jackrabbit Jousts Speech Tournament at South Dakota State University.
At the 74 Swing Speech Tournament, members of the Speaking Bobcats placed in the dramatic duo, dramatic interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking categories.
At the 2012 Jackrabbit Jousts Speech Tournament, the team members placed in the dramatic duo, dramatic interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, informative speaking, prose interpretation and rhetorical criticism categories. Students drew in first-place awards for the dramatic duo, impromptu speaking and rhetorical criticism areas.
This weekend, the Speaking Bobcats will go to Ball State University for another tournament.
The forensics team ended last year in fifth place and hopes to do as well or better this year, said Dan West, John A. Cassese director of forensics, who leads the Speaking Bobcats.
