Ohio University's Student Senate has decided again not to vote tonight on a resolution condemning the wording of Senate Bill 5.
Instead, State and Federal Affairs Commissioner Taylor Abbott, who penned the original resolution, will speak about the bill and the effects it has on OU.
SB 5, which was signed into law in March, limits the collective-bargaining rights of public workers. If enough Ohioans vote "no" on Issue 2, a referendum on the November ballot, SB 5 will be repealed.
Senate President Kyle Triplett said there will be a discussion about SB 5 following the presentation and that senate held off voting on the resolution because of a lack of knowledge about SB 5 among senate members .
Members of We Are Ohio, an anti-SB 5 coaltion, will attend senate's meeting during the "Student Speakout" session for the second week in a row to protest the fact senate still is not voting on the resolution.
"The executive board seems to think it's perfectly acceptable to ignore us and blow us off," said Tyler Barton, a student organizer for We Are Ohio.
Another topic for discussion will be a resolution to fill the South Green senator spot, which has been vacant because of the former senator's scheduling conflicts, Triplett said.
Senate will meet at 7:15 tonight in 235 Walter Hall.
