We Are Ohio, an organization dedicated to opposing Senate Bill 5, has released a video of last week's student protests at Ohio University.
About 50 students attended Student Senate's "Student Speakout" session last Wednesday to protest senate President Kyle Triplett's decision to leave a resolution opposing the wording of SB 5 off the agenda.
Triplett previously said he made the decision not to put the resolution up for discussion or a vote because Student Senate is not informed enough about SB 5 and because he thinks it is more appropriate for Faculty and Classified senates to take a stance on SB 5.
The video details the response of members of OU's chapters of We are Ohio and College Democrats last week as they walked from Baker University Center to Walter Hall with "No on Issue 2" signs, and more than 10 of them spoke to senate members.
Tonight, students will attend the senate meeting again to protest the fact that senate still is not voting on the resolution. Instead, senate members will listen to a presentation about SB 5 tonight from State and Federal Affairs Commissioner Taylor Abbott, who wrote the original resolution.
"This week, the students speaking out against Issue 2 will be met with a larger opposition from student groups such as the College Republicans," states a We Are Ohio release. "Both sides are expected to have equal time to speak on the issue."
