Athens Police respond to broken windows and fights

Athens Police responded to three separate calls early this morning — all three involved broken windows, two involved fights and one resulted in an arrest.

The first instance occurred after an underage person, who left the scene before police arrived, refused to leave The Pigskin, 38 N. Court St., according to a report from the Athens Police Department. While returning to their cruiser, the officers observed two males fighting, one of which was thrown into a window of the bar, breaking the window, according to the report.

The male received a laceration and was transported to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. A manager from The Pigskin estimated the damage to the window was about $1,400, according to the report.

The second incident involved a man breaking the front window of an apartment, located at 80 Mill St., according to a police report. Bryan B. Balzano, 23, was arrested for the damages and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Balzano was charged with public intoxication and criminal mischief, according to the jail's website. The damage to the window was estimated to be about $300, according to the report.

The third broken window also involved a fight, but the subjects had fled the scene before Athens Police had arrived, according to a police report. A window at Wings Over Athens, 31 N. Court St., was damaged during the fight, valued at about $1,000, according to the report.
