Howard Dewald

Dewald first of three Arts and Sciences dean finalists to hold open forum

Howard Dewald will speak today to the students and faculty he's been leading to convince them why he should continue as the dean of Ohio University's College of Arts and Sciences.

Dewald is one of three finalists for the position of Arts and Sciences dean. He has been serving as the interim dean since Ben Ogles left for a position as dean of the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences at Brigham Young University.

He will take questions from faculty and staff at an open forum at 4:10 p.m. today in 194 Clippinger Labs.

Dewald said in a previous interview he was excited to be named a finalist.

“I look forward to the opportunity … to become the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,” Dewald said.

The other two finalists are Robert Frank, associate dean for research and graduate studies for the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, and Beate Schmittmann, professor and chair of the physics department at Virginia Tech University.
