With candidates scrambling to place their final ads and scrap for a few final votes, campaign season sits exactly one week from conclusion.
There are two contested races in the city of Athens this year: the mayoral seat as well as City Council’s 3rd Ward representative.
Democratic incumbent Mayor Paul Wiehl is up for re-election against Republican challenger Randy Morris, and Democrat Michele Papai is chasing the 3rd Ward seat against independent candidate R.J. Sumney. Sumney is the business manager for The Post.
Amid the contested and uncontested races are several local issues as well as state Issue 2 — which would repeal Ohio Senate Bill 5.
Read on to find out all you need to know about this year’s City Council and mayoral hopefuls and how local and state issues will affect you and your respective ward.
