The Scripps College of Communication will continue its search for a new dean today, inviting students, faculty and professors to help with the process.
Each finalist is being invited to campus for two days and will be holding an open forum in front of department representatives and anyone else who would like to attend.
The chosen finalist will replace Greg Shepherd, who accepted a position as dean of the University of Miami's School of Communication.
Angela Powers is the first finalist for the open dean seat to visit campus and will speak for an hour today starting at 4:15 p.m. in 227 Bentley Hall.
“I’m looking forward to meeting students and answering a lot of questions students or faculty may have,” Powers said.
Powers is a professor and the director of the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Kansas State University, where she has worked for the past eight years.
“Ohio University is unique in that it provides a very good blend of hands-on experience with theory and context,” she said.
Although she is not actively seeking any other jobs, Powers said she became interested in the position at OU after being contacted by a university official.
“For these kinds of positions, it is very important that there’s a good fit, and my background is experience and knowledge in all of the disciplines in the college,” she said.
Laurence Alexander is the next finalist. He is scheduled to visit campus Nov. 9 and 10.
