I’m an alum from way back, who also happens to be a season ticket holder of football. I travel down from the northeast corner of the state for the home games and often go to support the teams (football and others) at their games at Akron, Kent State and Buffalo when I can.
Last (week’s) game against Temple was exciting, and the blackout theme with so many students present at a nationally televised game made it even more exciting.
I thought it was great when Temple had to burn early timeouts because of the tremendous noise from all the thunder sticks, and it seemed a definite advantage to our team.
However, true to form, so many students left, even before the Marching 110’s halftime show began. That was truly disappointing, not to mention how discourteous and outright rude, especially with a national TV audience.
How many of those students even know the band puts on a great post-game show, too? Temple didn’t seem to have any trouble hearing in the second half.
I’m not sure how to turn this around or even if it can be reversed. It’s hard to believe all those students were so pressed to start their studying (or Uptowning) that they could not stay for the last 90 minutes of a very exciting game.
It just plain looks bad, and I don’t understand it.
