A resolution calling for the official installment of the gender neutral housing program will be up tonight at Ohio University Student Senate’s last meeting of Fall Quarter.
Last week, senate’s LGBT Affairs commissioner Amelia Shaw was supposed to update senate on the gender-neutral housing pilot program, but decided to put off her presentation until this week to schedule her presentation around the resolution.
The pilot program is based on the first floor of Smith House on South Green this academic year and is being evaluated. Upperclassmen were able to apply for the housing last year and participate in the program for the first time this year. Shaw is a resident assistant in Smith House.
The resolution says senate supports the pilot program being implemented as a regular housing option for the 2012-13 academic year, Senate President Kyle Triplett said.
Another resolution up at tonight’s meeting was also originally on last week’s agenda but was taken off because the primary sponsor wanted to change some of the wording, Triplett said.
The resolution addresses the general fee, a quarterly fee all students pay. The resolution calls for more transparency regarding the fee, and senate is asking for it to be more outlined and accessible on OU’s main website.
“There isn’t any mention at all under the tuition page,” Triplett said. “You have to do a little digging, and once you find it, it doesn’t tell you what it is or where the money is going.”
Senate will also vote on a resolution calling for senate support for FourYears.com, a resource website allowing OU students to sell and buy used textbooks and write reviews of professors and classes.
OU alumnus Ryan Verner presented the site to senate earlier in the quarter, and senate will vote on a resolution to work with Verner on the site and to request the website to be linked on OU’s main website, Triplett said.
Brice Bible, OU’s chief information officer, will also give senate a presentation on updated technology at the university.
Senate will meet at 7:15 tonight in 235 Walter Hall.
