Student Senate to vote on support of Bobcat Lane opening, general fee transparency

Ohio University’s Student Senate meeting will be kept brief tomorrow, President Kyle Triplett said, because senate is planning to go cheer on the Bobcats at the football game against Temple University.

There are two presentations on the agenda.

The first is from Amelia Shaw, senate’s LGBT Affairs commissioner. Shaw will update senate on the gender-neutral housing pilot program, which is based on the first floor of Smith House on South Green this academic year and is being evaluated.

Upperclassmen were able to apply for the housing last year and participate in the program for the first time this year. Shaw is a resident assistant in Smith House.

“We want to encourage making the program more than (a pilot) for next year,” Triplett said.

The second presentation will be address OU’s outpatient care for students. Triplett did not provide the presenter’s name.

There are two resolutions on the agenda as well. The first addresses the general fee, a quarterly fee all students pay. The resolution calls for more transparency regarding the fee, and senate is asking for it to be more outlined and accessible on OU’s main website.

“There isn’t any mention at all under the tuition page,” Triplett said. “You have to do a little digging, and once you find it, it doesn’t tell you what it is or where the money is going.”

The second resolution calls for the opening of Bobcat Lane, which would provide access to Baker University Center from Richland Avenue. The idea was presented to senate last Wednesday, and the majority of the senators seemed to agree with it, Triplett said.

Senate will meet at 7:15 p.m. today in 235 Walter Hall.
