Walter Hall 'fracking' panel to address resident concerns

Area residents will gather in Walter Hall 235 tonight for a panel discussion on the possibility that hydraulic fracturing will soon be coming to Athens County.

There will be four panelists including Elizabeth Paranhos, a nationally recognized environmental lawyer, and State Representative Debbie Phillips of the 92nd Ohio House District. The panel will also include Ohio University Professor of Geology Dina Lopez, who specializes in environmental geology, and OU Professor of Economics Ariaster Chimeli, who specializes in environmental economics.

The panel will include presentations from each panelist followed by a question and answer session between the public and the panelists. It will be moderated by Alyssa Bernstein, a Professor of Philosophy at OU and the head of the OU Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics.

The panel will be in Walter Hall between 4 and 6 pm tonight.
