Heating, cooling system adjustments could obliterate online services access today

Students might lose access to Blackboard and the My OHIO Portal today.

Contractors will be working on the heating and cooling system in the building that houses the data center until about 4 p.m. today, Information Technology Communications Manager Sean O'Malley said last night in a universitywide email.

As the contractors work today, the data center's temperature range might affect students' access to online services.

“Steps are being taken to minimize the effects of this work on university systems; however, it is possible that some or all of the university's central online services may need to be shut down, ” O'Malley said in the email.

OIT will attempt to keep systems such as Blackboard and PeopleSoft running if a partial shutdown is required.

O'Malley added that CatMail will still be available because it is hosted outside of the university.

If a total shutdown of services occurs, OU's Office of Information Technology will post updates to the @OhioIT Twitter feed.
