Voinovich School urges food drive donations for local families

As students prepare for the holidays, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs hopes to ensure those remaining in Athens County don't go without this month.

The school is hosting a food drive from today until Dec. 16 to benefit the Friends and Neighbors Community Food Center in Lottridge, which is about a 20-minute drive from Ohio University.

The Friends and Neighbors Community Food Center offers several programs, including a soup kitchen, pantry, on-site nurse and small home repairs, according to its website. It serves about 3,000 people.

The wish list includes non-perishables such as instant formula, vegetable oil, canned vegetables and applesauce.

Donation boxes are located in the main lobbies of Buildings 21 and 22 at The Ridges.

Graduate Student Senate is promoting the food drive, and GSS President Tracy Kelly said she will meet anyone wishing to donate in Baker University Center if the Ridges location is too inconvenient. Those with items to donate can drop them off at her office on the third floor of Baker or email her at gss@ohio.edu to arrange a time to give her items in Baker.
