Ohio University’s Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) tweeted last night that it will hold its first Battle of the MCs, a competition for one student to perform during this year’s Sib’s Weekend concert.
Applications are available for those musically inclined Bobcats hoping for a few minutes of fame before California rapper Dom Kennedy and Def Jam Records’ Big K.R.I.T. hit the stage Feb. 18.
Winsome Chunnu, assistant director of OU’s Multicultural Center, said the search for an opening performance at the annual concert is still in progress. The winning student will take the stage before the concert’s opener, which has yet to be decided.
“We have many students with talent on campus, and we’re going to use it,” Chunnu said.
Following the application due date – Friday, Jan. 13 – auditions will be held Jan. 27 and will include student rapper Jéan P. BSCPB execs will judge the public contest. A venue has yet to be determined.
Also in celebration of OU’s Sib’s Weekend, the Multicultural Center will hold its second annual So You Think You’re Famous Variety Show Friday, Feb. 17 in Baker University Theatre. Students and their sibs will dress like Beyoncé and other pop stars to recreate their favorite music videos.
Sib’s Weekend is scheduled for Feb. 17-19.
