Chief audit executive position opens door for four finalists

This week, four finalists will go head to head for the chance to become Ohio University’s Chief Audit Executive.

The finalists — two from OU’s internal audit office — will interview for the position currently held by Kathryn Gilmore, who will step down as of Jan. 31.

Because this is the students’ first week of classes, there will not be open forums for the candidates, said Becky Watts, chief of staff to OU President Roderick McDavis. However, anyone interested in speaking to the candidates can contact Watts at wattsr@ohio.edu.

The chief audit executive needs to have a bachelor’s degree with “a preference for major or concentrated study in accounting, systems, business or related field, (and) eight to 10 years of public or diverse private accounting or business consulting experience with progressive supervisory, project management and technical experience,” Watts said.

The finalists are Jeffrey Davis, Tressa Ries, Deloris Pettis and Nancy Haig.

Davis graduated from OU in 1993 with a bachelor’s in business administration majoring in accounting. Since 2007, he has served as an audit manager in OU’s internal audit office, according to a university news release.

Ries also attended OU and graduated with a M.Ed. in higher education administration.  She then went on to St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. to attain a BA in economics with a concentration in accounting. Ries is currently the senior internal auditor at OU, according to the news release.

Pettis has an MBA from Tulane University in New Orleans and a BA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Most recently, she was director of Harvard University’s PEPFAR Program Transition in the School of Public Health, according to the news release.

Haig has an MBA in management and finance and a BS in economics and business administration from Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. She is the director of internal audit for Aveta, Inc., according to the news release.

Watts said the final decision regarding the chief audit executive should be made by the end of January.

Gilmore has worked at OU for 13 years and has been the chief audit executive since 2003.

“Retiring was a difficult decision, because I love my job and Ohio University,” she said. “Serving as the chief audit executive has been an honor.”
